Baby buys: the activity bouncer

Baby Einstein

When you become a parent you also become a sitting target for just about every brand on the planet to sell you something. Some of these things you need, will swear by, will tell anyone who’ll listen that they too MUST buy said item because it will CHANGE THEIR LIFE. Other things will turn out to be a big fat waste of money and just sit gathering dust in the corner (hello, pointless baby shoes that don’t stay on baby feet).

The Baby Einstein Activity Jumper is in the first camp. We’ve had this toy for three weeks now and it’s proving to be worth every beautiful centimetre of space we’ve sacrificed to have a big baby toy in our family room. It currently sits in the place we’d reserved for a brand new armchair, but after seeing how much Baby Girl likes her new bouncer we’ve decided to postpone the armchair for the foreseeable future.

Baby Einstein review

Baby Girl loves to be on her feet, so this toy is right up her street. The seat is attached to the arms of the bouncer via springs, so the baby can bounce in it while playing with all the bright, flashy toys around the outside. The seat also twists all the way round, so as well as bouncing, Baby Girl can manoeuvre her way around in a circle to play with whatever catches her fancy.

The Baby Einstein Activity Jumper has also proved to be a very handy way for my two girls to play together, as their sisterly bond continues to grow. Frog loves to press the buttons on the piano part of the toy, to keep her baby sister entertained. And, when she tires of button pressing, Frog finds her sister is at just the right height to sit in rapt awe as she shows her the full Frozen sticker collection for the umpteenth time.

The seat is wipeable, which is useful when you have a dribbly teething baby who drools over everything. Plus, when things get really bad (nappy explosions etc) the seat can be easily taken out to be washed.

At £90 from George at Asda, this isn’t a toy on the cheap end of the spectrum, but as far as we’re concerned it’s worth the cash. It keeps the baby entertained at prime cranky moments (my hands are now free to cook tea without having to do it all one-handed or with a baby on me in the sling!) and has already given her hours of fun. As she gets bigger I can see there is still lots of potential new play opportunities to be had, as she gets stronger to bounce with more force and to really start playing with the piano to make tunes and learn new words.

Obviously all that bouncing and playing is pretty tiring for a five month old, so it helps to wear her out ready for a nap in the daytime. Another tick in the win box.

Baby Einstein

If you’re struggling for space then this might not be the best buy for you. It’s big and does take up a bit of room. Having said that, though, it’s no bigger than other baby activity jumpers that I’ve seen on the market, so if it’s simply a compare and contrast decision between another brand then my money goes on the Baby Einstein offering.

If you want to see it in action and to hear what else we loved about the Baby Einstein Activity Jumper then have a watch of this vlog I did last week (there’s more baby chat on my YouTube channel too by the way – come and say hi!).

I love our bouncer but I think Pip’s going to be missing out on it as we just don’t have the space – those things are huge! Hopefully we’ll get a nice summer and I can pop it in the garden for a bit!!
