Ever since we stayed in a boutique hotel in Cheltenham a couple of months ago, I’ve dreamed of having that same sense of luxury at home. Unfortunately, our budget is rather diminished compared to the big guns of the hotel world and all our money at the moment goes into a “house pot”; namely, the Save To Buy account we have with the bank.  But I have friends in the interior decor world (no really, I do) who tell me there are other ways to make your home look all plush and pretty, without having to spend a hotel fortune.

A thick, luxurious carpet

The best hotels always have a carpet that your feet sink into. You know that feeling when you scrunch your toes and feel thick carpet beneath them? A luxurious carpet isn’t just restrained to the 5* hotels, you can get some of the best quality carpets in Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Knaresborough too. Apparently, it’s all about being bold. Stripes and other patterns can hide a multitude of toddler sins and make an interiors statement at the same time.

Mirrors, mirrors everywhere

Boutique hotels are all about the mirrors. Unique mirrors are the latest in art for your walls. If you don’t want to have to bend in a thousand different ways to check you haven’t got spinach in between your teeth, pick a mirror with a bit of functionality as well as edgy design. Your teeth will thank you for it later on.

A bed fit for a King (in other words the king size bed)

If it’s your bedroom you want to give the boutique edge then the bed must be the centre of the room. Unfortunately for us, we have a Queen sized bed, which isn’t ideal when one of you is six and a half foot. They’re pricey, but when that Save To Buy pot is full, we’re investing in a King Size Bed before ANYTHING else. I think (and this is no exaggeration) it will greatly improve our quality of life. Oh – and pretty pillows help too of course.
