No but seriously though, what is with this weather?! Unless you live in a house with no windows, doors or Facebook (or, alternatively, anywhere but the UK) you can’t have missed the fact that spring is, actually, very far from being sprung.
Now, I love a bit of weather chat as much as the next Brit but what I love even more is not getting frostbite on the school run. So with this in mind I’ve collated six of my favourite colourful jumpers around at the moment, which will keep you warm, fool you into feeling cheerfully sunny even if it’s minus eight outdoors, and be exceptionally easy to pull on over a thermal vest and ten layered long-sleeved tees.

You see, the thing about a big old jumper is that it goes with pretty much anything; the standard mum-issue jeans thrown on in haste on a school run morning, a midi skirt worn with boots for an evening at the pub, or (my current favourite) over the top of a pinafore dress with thick tights and trainers for an easy week-day alternative. No fiddly buttons, no uncomfortable drafts, never any need to suck in the stomach. They suit every body shape, parenting situation and mood. Except the sunshine, obvs.
Whether it’s a slogan sweater or a pretty knit, I’m not fussy. My only requirement at this time of year is for COLOUR. So. Much. Colour. Because if it’s raining, or snowing, or freezing bright sunshine outside the only thing that’s going to make me feel warm (aside from the soft inner fleece or cosy wool texture) is the promise of sunny days with headache-inducing tangerine or pink so sickly sweet in its candy shade it makes my teeth hurt.
