I blogged about blogging last week. Actually, I wrote about blogging but decided not to publish. It wasn’t that I was ashamed of what I’d written – I stand by every word – but I didn’t want to max out my self-imposed blog naval-gazing limit.

I bought a dress while I was shopping for some groceries in the supermarket this afternoon. It was one of those impulse buys. It was less than twenty quid and I’d eyed it up last time I was browsing for socks for my almost-2 year old daughter.
I never buy clothes for myself, you see. Or rarely anyway. It’s even rarer that I make an impulse purchase.

It’s a money thing.
This is something I cringe from writing, because it’s so at odds with “me”. I hate to talk about money. Which, being self-employed, is probably something I need to get over.
Maybe it’s a British thing. Or maybe it’s that I don’t find “money chat” particularly interesting. And by “money chat”, I mean anything to do with purchases, status symbols, big cars, expensive stuff, houses. Continue reading »

I’ve been having a bit of an identity crisis recently.
It’s a work thing. I’m a freelance journalist, see. This means that sometimes I am “Working Mum”, putting on my smart clothes and leaving the house to do a day’s work in radio. Other times I am “Work At Home Mum”, writing articles while wearing a dressing gown covered in half-chewed banana and crusty milk. Then, when I don’t have any bookings or commissions to finish, I am “Stay At Home Mum”. On these days, my uniform is a mouldy dressing gown followed by a pair of muddy jeans. I know Real Nappy Week isn’t over yet and so this celebration may be a bit premature. But I’m going to live dangerously.
We’ve got to day 6 of Real Nappy Week with no spillages, no poo on carpets and no fuss. I can’t believe how easy it’s been. Seriously.
When Bambino Mio asked me to take up the Real Nappy Challenge and swap a disposable for a reusable every day for a week, I wasn’t convinced. But after realising the wine budget was being spent on nappies, I thought I’d give it a go. I really like wine, see. Continue reading »

It’s a big week in this house. We’re trying something new.
Real nappies. That is, the cloth ones that you have to wash. Hmmmm.
Since Frog was born ten months ago, we’ve always been disposable kind of girls (I say “we”, clearly she was the one actually wearing the nappies).
