inI’ve been cheating recently. I’m not proud of it – it’s not big and it’s not clever.
I was feeling a little tired, you see. Taken for granted, if you will. I felt like we just needed a break, to give us both time to grow.
And that break has worked wonders. Because, thankfully, the relationship is back on track. Continue reading »

inBeing a baby has just got a whole lot better.
As if being served like a queen on demand, sleeping for three hours every day and spending the rest of the time playing wasn’t good enough, Frog now has a new pair of pyjamas to make her life complete. Continue reading »

This week has been difficult and wonderful.
Difficult, because Frog has chicken pox and hasn’t been particularly happy about it. And wonderful, because it’s back to school time which means the (self-proclaimed) Northern Love Machine and I swap roles again, with him going out to do his teacher job and me staying at home. Yes it’s back to the juggling of writing while Frog sleeps (which hasn’t been much this week), but at least I actually get to see her, which is a definite bonus.
The chicken pox has put my usually greedy daughter well and truly off her food. She’s even been turning her nose up at the usual favourites of banana and spaghetti bolognaise (not together – that would just be weird).
But the same can’t be said for biscuits. Continue reading »

Don’t worry, this isn’t a post about stripping or catchy tunes from 2002.
Instead, I’m going to talk to you today about thermometers. Or rather, a thermometer. Being the terribly ill-prepared (pun not intended, but while it’s there I’m going to stick with it) parents that we are, the (self-proclaimed) Northern Love Machine and myself have never invested in a baby thermometer.
On the rare couple of occasions we’ve needed one, we’ve nipped next door and borrowed theirs. But as time goes on and the amount of earwax Frog shares with the neighbours increases, we thought it about time to make a thermometer purchase. Continue reading »

inI like to make people cry. Not just any old people, but those who matter the most to me. That is to say, I like to make the people I love cry.
Now, before you decide that I’m a twisted woman, let me explain. It’s not that I like to go round dishing out the odd well-placed kick to those I love, or hitting them with a perfectly placed criticism (kicking isn’t my style and criticism would just fall on deaf ears anyway). It’s that I enjoy finding presents that cause the receiver to cry. Proper tears of unbridled joy and emotion.
In the case of my dad, this is easy. He’s a complete wimp who snivels at the sight of a puppy on TV. Before the wrapping paper is even off, he’s a blubbing mess – exactly the reaction I hope for. Continue reading »

inIf juice was wine my baby would be a drunk.
After spending the last 6 months resolutely refusing to give Frog anything other than water or milk, I’ve recently given in to the pull of the juice. And Frog’s taken to it like a duck to water, or a disco queen to sambucca. Continue reading »

I’m feeling a bit smug this evening.
Why? Oh, you know – I JUST WORKED OUT HOW TO USE A PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY.
Sorry. But this is kind of a big deal for me.
Despite being a fully trained broadcast journalist, technical stuff really isn’t my strong point. I’m OK with it once I’ve been shown how it works and which plug fits where. But I’m not, well, a natural. Continue reading »
