Review (sort of)

Once upon a time there lived an elephant. Let’s call him Reggie, because we all know Reggie is a great name for an elephant.

Reggie lived happily amongst his elephant family, until his mother told him it was time for him to go out into the big wide world and “network” with other elephants – and maybe the odd human too.

So Reggie climbed inside his suitcase (which happened to be made of paper) and slept all the way through the Royal Mail’s postal network, until he arrived on the doormat of a 500 year old cottage in a village in England.

Reggie was a bit homesick when he woke up. He missed his mum and his elephant friends. He couldn’t see any other elephants around and he felt a little out of place. The loneliness ate away at poor Reggie as he tried to fit in with the other things around him. He attempted to hide his beautiful purple coat and long trunk, to look more like his new plain friends, but it didn’t work.

He was still Reggie. There was nothing he could do about it.

But one sunny autumn morning, Reggie awoke to find he didn’t mind being Reggie any longer. He had a new friend. She was a frog. The frog told him she was two years old and, up until the day she met Reggie, she wasn’t that keen on elephants. Especially not elephants that sit in your hair.

But the frog loved Reggie. She let him sit in her locks with pride. She didn’t cry when her mother pinned Reggie in place. Instead, she ran straight to the mirror to wave at Reggie as he stood tall from the top of her head.

One night, the frog kissed goodnight to Reggie, promising him he could sit in her hair again in the morning. When she awoke as the sun streamed in through her window the following day, she rushed straight to Reggie’s bed.

But Reggie was not there. In his place there was nothing but a bit of purple fluff and a lone ribbon.

The frog cried. She cried and cried and cried.

And then her mother cried too, because she was meant to write a beautiful review about Reggie on her blog and Reggie had selfishly packed his trunk and gone off in search of his fortune somewhere else.

As you read these words, Reggie is currently having plastic surgery to shorten his trunk and has dyed his hair a bright shade of orange. It turned out he didn’t really like the frog that much and held higher aspirations than sitting on her head all day long.

But if you see him, the frog would very much like to say a proper goodbye. Here is what Reggie looked like when he was last spotted:

And Reggie? If you’re listening, do get in touch. We just want to know you’re alright.

This is a review post (of sorts) – the lovely Chiara at Hoobynoo World did me a favour last week and so I am returning the favour. Although not very well it would seem, as I let Reggie run away. I am a terrible babysitter.

If you’d like to purchase any of Reggie’s relatives, there’s a rather impressive collection at www.hoobynooworld.co.uk
