Review
This time last year, I smugly congratulated myself on my daughter’s superior eating habits. “It’s all down to Baby-led Weaning,” I’d tell anyone who’d listen. I was convinced I had it sussed, that my 18 month old was eating scallops and avocado and granola – and anything else marginally organic – that I liked to pat myself on the back and claim her eating habits as completely down to the way I was rearing her.
Oh how times have changed.
At nearly two and a half, my daughter has found her voice when it comes to food. “I don’t like it,” is regularly shouted at the dinner table, especially if it involves a food other than yoghurt. Although she will still eat pretty much anything, she won’t reliably eat whatever is put in front of her on any given day. For example, at the weekend she loved prawns. Prawns were all she’d eat. But today she hates them, apparently.
This is where smoothie makers come into play. After two days of not eating much at all, I was desperate to get some nutrition into my recovering toddler this evening. She was pale through lack of food and sleep. Since her sickness bug throughout Monday night and Tuesday morning, she’s slept for about 16 hours and only eaten a crust of bread with a sip of water.
That all changed once she was confronted with the fruits of my smoothie labour:
I chucked a banana, kiwi fruit and a handful of ice into the Kenwood Smoothie Maker jug, along with a splash of milk, before hitting “mix” and then “smooth”. It came out of the turn-on tap in a creamy, velvety texture – and best of all, it didn’t drip everywhere like our old blender used to.
It seemed to do the trick, because this is what my toddler looked like afterwards. Back to her usual tricks.

Disclosure: I was sent a Kenwood B245 Concert Mini Smoothie Blender for the purpose of this review. They’re available for £39.00 from Littlewoods.
Defo a great way and sometimes the only way in our house depending on childs mood… LOL
Oh I know that feeling!
Subterfuge is definitely the way forward!
Especially during epic tantrum situations!
ooooh yummy! I want one!
Yummy idea. I have days sometimes when I can’t face food either. I really should get my blender out more.
